# 5.3 Token Utility

The $REALM token serves three critical functions:

1. **Sequencing Currency:** Developers pay Sequencers in $REALM to prioritize their game's bundles.
2. **Prover Staking:** Nodes must stake $REALM to participate in the proof generation network. Malicious behavior results in slashing.
3. **Governance:** $REALM holders vote on protocol upgrades, including the "Base Fee" parameters and ZK circuit upgrades.
